Q. Hi Dinka, we are very pleased to host you here at www.scorpiojin.com. You have been a great source of inspiration to many listeners and a main element in the Progressive House scene for many years, featured on labels such as Unreleased Digital, Enormous Tunes, and Anjunadeep. If you can briefly describe, what has the journey been like from your first days as a DJ in Zurich to your current status as one of the premier producers in Progressive House? And what were some of your biggest challenges?
A. Thank you so much for having me. It’s all hard work – nothing like a vacation as people might think.
I had to fight a lot for things a male colleague wouldn’t have had to say please for and it took me a while
to be taken serious. Also there are many people in the industry who don’t mean well, so the main aim
is to actually stay away from that side of the industry.
Q. Your name was influenced by the South Sudanese tribe, “Dinka” also known as Jieng. What inspired you to inherit this name?
Q. You have traveled much throughout your career, and still do today. What has been your most inspirational trip and why?
Q. 2013 was yet another great year for you with FOUR releases under Unreleased Digital. What has your experience been like working with this team (and other labels if you wish to mention)? And any surprise releases or collaborations for 2014?
Q. I’m sure being on tour has its crazy, hectic moments. What keeps you motivated?!
A. Yes it was definitely part of my choice. I admire those people for being joyful and living in a natural environment in peace with nature, creating their own sounds in the simplest yet epic way.
A. I had a great year and a wonderful time releasing with those labels – but it was time to move on. There are collaborations coming up. And yes, they will be surprises :)
"...your guts are ALWAYS right but you need to be strong enough to follow them"
Q. As a female producer and DJ, you have broken many barriers in the Industry with your success. Today you are both an icon within Electronic music and a source of encouragement to all upcoming producers, even more so to young, female producers. To what or whom do you attribute your success thus far?
A. A few hard working people have been involved in this project that I’m very thankful for.
A. Definitely Japan. It was and still is my favorite Asian country. The way people handle life regarding treating each other, regarding handling every day business is impressive and inspiring.
Q. What advice would you give to young producers who wish to make a similar impact as you have?
A. The best advice I can give is to go with your guts. Fully trust into it – your guts are ALWAYS right but you need to be strong enough to follow them.
Q. Tell us a fun, unknown fact about the famous Dinka that we are yet to know
A. I would love to have a mini pig as a pet.
Q. Describe yourself in one word
Q. A quote or last words for those in need of inspiration
A. Beautiful people I meet on the road as well as the beautiful people I am in constant close touch with that support me and keep me going.
