Q. You’re starting your 2014 tour soon with performances in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. How does it feel to perform in the home land again?
A. I am so excited to come back and tour in Australia again, the last time I was here in Australia for shows was for Future Music last year and I had an absolute blast!!
It is always wonderful to come home, I miss Australia so much when I am away, but it is even better to come home and perform! The crowds in Australia really seem to be embracing EDM these days.
Q. You’ve now acquired millions fans around the world, with sold out performances on every continent. Where does the journey take you now?
Q. It seems your brother Anthony has always been involved with your music, first as your band mate and now as your General Manager. What great things has he brought to your life and career?
A. Yes, Anthony is as much a part of my music as I am. We always wrote all the songs together and we still do, every song is very much an equal collaboration between us. This used to be the case in the band, and now we have applied the same writing process to EDM. Anthony is a really talented writer and guitarist, and is great at putting the pieces of the puzzles together and finishing the songs, where as I am perhaps more suited to coming up with the initial sparks of ideas. It is very much a balance between us there.
Anthony preferred to be behind the scenes than onstage, so this set up works well for both of us. He is far more organized and meticulous with details than I am. I am off with the fairies a lot of the time, so it is wonderful to have someone who you completely trust to be taking care of all the details behind the scenes.
"I don't think I will ever lose the desire..."
Q. What stimulating collaborations can we look forward to in 2014?
A. I am extremely excited to be working on some collaborations at the moment with some producers who are extremely talented, and who also write in slightly different styles to the songs I have worked on in the past. I really want to push the creative envelope this year and branch out with my songwriting into some different territory. I think it is important to keep things challenging and interesting.
There will of course still be some uplifting and emotional style melodies, but I am exploring a few songs with a bit of a darker edge too at the moment. I would love to mention the names of the collaborations, but unfortunately I have to keep those a surprise until they are actually signed off on for release :)
A. Over the next month or so I will be returning to Europe for some shows, then a festival in Canada, followed by Asia and then a lot more country hopping from there I believe. This year for me is shaping up to be a year of expansion and of pushing creative boundaries.
The most important thing for me right now is the next batch of songs about to come out. Last year I focused more on the touring after a release heavy 2012. I am very much ready to get some new music back out there and begin the next chapter!
Q. You’ve worked with the biggest names in the Industry such as Chris Lake, Armin Van Buuren, Dash Berlin… the list goes on. What’s the best thing about working with these high profile artists?
A. To me one of the best things about all of these artists has not only been that they are wonderfully talented, but that they have all been extremely down to earth and humble people. I find it very refreshing that in EDM music I have so far mostly encountered people with a love for what they do, and an appreciation to be doing it, even when these people are at the top of their field.
When working with djs I have been driven by the sounds of their music and how I am inspired to write for their songs. All of these guys really know how to work a song, and how to get the best out of the vocal melodies, as well as having an audience ready and willing to listen to their releases.
Q. Tell us a fun fact about yourself we might like to know.
Q. Last words or a quote for the viewers.
"I am always driven to write that next song that can move
me in some way"
A. I would love to say huge thanks to anyone who has ever taken the time to listen to any of the songs I have made or has bothered to download a track, come to a show or send me a message :) This energy makes everything worthwhile, and gives me a purpose in this life.
Q. In your online biography you mentioned the frustration of being distracted by the business side of the Industry early in your career. In your own words you said: “I want to burn this all down and dream it back to life the way I had imagined it”, and so you did. Is that courageous fire still in you today?
A. Most definitely. I am always driven to write that next song that can move me in some way, and then hopefully stir emotion in other people too. More than anything I want to create the sounds that I so need to hear for myself, and there has always been a fire within me to do that.
Songwriting is a strange process, I think the music comes from somewhere else, where perhaps it all already exists on some level, and in a way we have a responsibility to bring it down and give it life in the way it needs to be heard. I don’t think I will ever lose the desire to be a part of that process.
Q. And as a female icon… your style and expression are certainly one of a kind. Do you see yourself going into other art forms such as Fashion or Film?
A. I am currently dabbling in some music for film soundtracks, so hopefully this is an area that may perhaps open up a little more in the future. I am extremely interested in creating soundscapes and writing to suit the mood of a story.
As far as fashion goes, I love looking for pieces for myself to wear in vintage stores and things, but I don’t think I’d have too much of a flare if I was pushed beyond my tomboy/tank girl obsession, haha, so I think I will leave that to the experts!!

"I really want to push the
creative envelope this year"
A. I am extraordinarily clumsy and uncoordinated. It’s awkward, I literally bump into, trip over, break or spill everything I come into contact with! I guess it is kind of ironic that I write and play dance music when I am probably the worst dancer anyone is ever likely to see!! :)
