Sebastian Hilgetag is an up and coming photographer from Berlin, Germany. The 27 year-old creative mind studied communication design in Potsdam for 7 years. His main fields of work while studying have been typedesign, cinematography, and photography. In 2012 the short film “Listen Carefully” which he created with Marie Havemann won 2 awards at Fulldome Festival in Jena. In 2013 his Bachelor thesis film “I AM THE OCEAN” was awarded with the “Progress Award” by PETA.
In 2015 he completed his studies as Master of Arts. Today Sebastian Hilgetag is working as a freelance graphic designer and photographer for advertising agencies, fashion designers, and musicians. He started to experiment with photography in a serious way when he started his design studies in 2008. Since then not just his skills grew, but also the seriousness he puts into his photographic work. Sebastian’s photography extends mainly in the fields of Fashion-, Glamour- and Lifestyle Photography.
He masters light and shadow in his photography like few others. His philosophy for growing is to always keep and open mind for experiments. This is why he keeps experimenting with light as well as unconventional methods while working on his free projects. A lot if his work features a dark component even if this isn’t visible in the first moment. At the moment he works a lot with different kinds of vintage film cameras and films from medium format to 35mm film beside his professional work with conventional & professional digital cameras and lenses. Sebastian’s secret to keeping his fascination and thus new and interesting work is by always staying curious and listening carefully to everything surrounding him.
