Steve Wells Bio Steve Wells is a New Zealand freelance photographer, based in Paris. An original member of #1 single and platinum selling New Zealand band Fur Patrol, Steve moved to melbourne in 2001 where he developed a taste for photography after being given a camera belonging to his grandfather (a 1920's london photographer and life long musician). Leaving the band after 9 years, Steve made the move to Sydney where he explored photography further, honing his skills by assisting top commercial Sydney based photographers. In 2007 Steve moved to Paris where he works in fashion, beauty and the luxury industry, for clients like Dior, APM Monaco, Intercoiffure, as well as shooting celebrities like Kristin Scott Thomas, China Moses, Pete Doherty and Vincent Cassel. In his downtime, Steve creates personal series for exhibitions.
Self taught, Steve loves the moment when he is behind the camera, nothing else exists outside the frame, and all the planning and teamwork come down to this precise moment. Often working alone on luxury product shoots, his preferred experience is with a team, the shared creative energy inspiring new and interesting work. Constantly looking for beauty in all its forms, Steve’s work is precise, with a detailed, pure aesthetic, and (if the clients agree) is often slightly left of centre.
